“Patterns of Force”
“Patterns of Force” The planet Ekos is ruled by a Nazi-like regime - the result of an obviously failed experiment by the Federation sociologist Gill. Kirk, Spock and McCoy manage to save the planet, but not before Gill, who is only a puppet of the actual ruler, is killed by them. summary by Ex-Astris-Scientia
Another version of “A Piece of the Action” if you ask me. I don’t have much more to say other than I hate this kind of stories. Gangsters or Nazis, there’s no difference. “The City on the Edge of Forever” was very much different.
Okay, in both cases what we get is basically the return to some point in our history. The difference is in the detail. In “The City” there was some kind of subtle mention about the future Star Trek reality. Some connection between the fantasy world and the real one. It happens in such stories from time to time and that’s precisely what makes me interested in them. This other kind of story has nothing to do with our history. It’s always about some different planet which only basically repeats Earth’s history. No connection, no subtlety, nothing. Just some costumes. This is no fun for me.
