The Man Trap
“The Man Trap” - summary by Ex Astris Scientia Stardate 1513.1: McCoy meets Prof. Crater and his wife Nancy with who he once had a relationship, but he does not notice she is actually an alien being able to assume any desired shape and killing humans by draining all salt from their bodies. After the being has killed two crewmen, it comes aboard the Enterprise and attacks Kirk. McCoy has to shoot the salt vampire.
Well, you already know something about my views concerning TOS in general. This episode confirmed them. To me it looked almost ancient. Not to mention some logical shortcomings.
Of course, the idea of an alien parasite appealed to me very much. Unfortunately, I had already seen and read quite a few much more elaborate and complicated plots based on it. One thing that really threw me off was the scene when Nancy appears to look like three different people at the same time for Kirk, McCoy and the unknown crewman.
I didn’t very much like the scene where McCoy had to shoot the girl either. Forgive my being harsh but it was rather cheap for me, though played well.
Certainly not one of my favourite episodes ever.
