The Outcast
The J’naii are an androgynous race who have abolished sexual reproduction which they see as primitive long ago. During a mission to rescue a shuttle from a null space pocket, Riker falls in love with the J’naii pilot Soren who has preserved female tendencies. When the J’naii detect what is going on, they take Soren into custody and put her on trial. Despite Picard’s warning, Riker and Worf try to free Soren, but the “therapy” has already taken effect and Soren denies her feelings for Riker. summary by Ex-Astris-Scientia
Hm… One thing I can’t deny is that it was delicate and subtle. The feelings, the conversations… stylish. And touching, too. Not to mention some humor. While I can see how Riker could have fallen for that pilot, what I don’t understand is how he’s trying to break the most fundamental rules for her. He, the seasoned Starfleet Officer by now. I believe it would have been much more credible in the first, maybe even second season. The same thing as with Troy in “Masterpiece Society” - just inconsistent with the character’s personality at that point. Still, an interesting piece to watch.
