“The Wounded”
The renegade starship U.S.S. Phoenix under the command of Captain Benjamin Maxwell violates the peace treaty with the Cardassians and destroys an outpost and several ships. The Cardassian Gul Macet comes aboard to urge Picard to destroy the Phoenix, if necessary. Maxwell lost his family in a Cardassian attack on Setlik III and believes that they are planning a new war. When Picard does not manage to stop him, O’Brien who served under Maxwell beams to the Phoenix and convinces him to surrender. I understand the necessity of such episodes but this one wasn’t particularly appealing to me. Perhaps because of the antagonist character. He was… just a little bland if you ask me. Truth to tell, I have no idea what really drove Maxwell into madness. Losing family? Well, yes, it’s tragic but I didn’t see it convincing here. OTOH, O’Brian was an interesting character here. His attitude towards Cardassians was fascinating. The turbolift scene, if you remember. Kudos!
